A Look At Three Common Types Of Worms In Felines

Various types of worms can cause problems in cats. Tapeworms, hookworms, and roundworms are three different types. These worms multiply as they live inside your cat. If there get to be too many, it can be life-threatening for your cat. Here’s a look at these different types.

Hookworms

Hookworms are smaller than the others as they only grow to be half an inch. Your cat can swallow them in his food and become infected. Sometimes, the worms are able to penetrate the cat’s skin. They worms initially make their way through the lungs before ending up in the intestines.

An infestation of hookworms can also be life-threatening. Once in the intestines, they begin to suck blood. A lot of blood can be lost if too many worms are present. If they get to be too numerous, your cat can develop anemia. Deworming medication is used to treat hookworms.

Tapeworms

Cats can also be affected by tapeworms, although they rarely cause serious damage. These feline worms infect cats when they ingest contaminated rodents or fleas. They live in the small intestine just like hookworms. You may notice segments in your cat’s stool. You should be able to spot the segments easily if you look closely. Tapeworms are also easy to treat through use of deworming medications. However, you need to adopt a flea control program if you want to prevent tapeworms in cats.

Roundworms

Roundworms live in the same intestine and can reach up to five inches in length. Most cats become infected by coming into contact with feces or food. Queens can also pass them to their kittens through their milk.

Since they’re so large, too many worms can easily cause an intestinal obstruction. An infestation can quickly become serious for kittens. Your veterinarian can determine if your cat has these feline worms by examining his stool. The main method of treatment is deworming medication.

How To Give Your Cat A Pill

Giving your pet cat a pill can be a nightmare. No cat wants something shoved down his throat, and he will fight you tooth and nail to prevent it. Although most cats are small in size, you’d be quite amazed with how much power they actually have. There are ways that you can get your cat to take his pills, which we will cover below.

The easiest way to give a cat pill is to crush the power into a powdery form by putting it between two spoons. Once the pill is powder, mix it in with some wet cat food. Cats that are used to eating dry cat food will see the wet food and think of it as a treat. They will normally eat it up, unaware that they just took their medicine.

If the medicine happens to be in capsule form, all you have to do is pry the capsule apart then sprinkle the medicine on some wet food and serve it to your pet. If the food also contains the pill or if your cat is sick, chances are he won’t eat it. In this event, you should look into a pet piller. You can get these handy devices from your veterinarian. They are plastic rods that hold the pill until you press a plunger. When you get one, you should always get a long one with a softer tip.

When you get your gun, your vet should show you how to use it. The most difficult aspect of using the gun is getting your cat to open his mouth. The gun will more or less shoot the pill in the cat’s mouth, and down his throat. You’ll need to hold him tight, to make sure that he doesn’t wiggle his way loose. Once you have his mouth open, you’ll need to squeeze the trigger and pull the gun away quickly. After the pill has been inserted, make sure you give your cat a treat.

If you aren’t comfortable using the gun, you can always try giving your cat his pills by hand. To do it this way, you’ll need to hold your cat still, and open his mouth with your hand. Once you have his mouth open, you should aim for the back of his throat and throw the pill in. Once it is in his mouth, you should close his mouth with your hand and hold it shut for a few moments. This way, your cat will swallow the pill if he hasn’t already.

If you can’t get any of the above techniques to work, you can always go to a local pharmacy and get them to a make flavored gel or liquid using your cats medication. You should use this as a last resort though, as it can tend to get expensive.

News On Cat Care Illnesses You Should Understand

If you or I are in pain we can obviously make it known and try and find the answer to heal our problem. A cat will not be able to do this but by paying close attention to them you can still get a clear understanding of if they are suffering. For this reason it is vital to be able to recognise your cat illnesses.

Below are a number of points relating to cats problems you should watch out for and their symptoms.

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is the most concerning disease and in fact is the leading cause of death amongst cats. It is caused by a coronavirus infection and the worst thing is that the symptoms are very common with other problems so it is very difficult to tell.

There is also Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) that is similar to HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). Just like the human version, it is a life long disease that progresses slowly and kills the cat.

Cats can also be infected by Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV). This is a retrovirus that causes fatal cancerous and non-cancerous diseases. On the positive side, it can be treated using some home detergents and bleach as well as warmth and drying. It is passed through the saliva, tears, urine and feces of infected cats. Unlike the other two, it cannot survive too long in the environment so it is only contagious when the infected cat stays with a fellow cat for a long period of time.

Worms are also another threat to cats and this is caused by a fungal infection that is spread through the spores. Since it is a self-limiting disease, you don’t need to do anything to make it go away. It will eventually clear up but it could possibly take a few months.

If you cat is overweight, chances are it already has feline diabetes. The symptoms of this disease include excessive urination and thirst as well as weight loss or gain. Vets are not yet sure what causes this but there have been a few research studies that have shown that there is a connection between pancreatic disease, hormonal imbalance and certain medications.

The symptoms of the majority of the diseases mentioned are very similar. These include diarrhea, vomiting, lameness lasting for more than 5 days in one leg, a decrease in vision, excessive panting, a seizure, blood in the stool or urine, hair loss, persistent coughing or gagging and breathing heavily or rapidly at rest. In order to find the answer, your cat will have to undergo some tests.

The vet will take some blood, urine and feces samples. Any input that you have observed and provide will also be helpful. When the tests come out, only then will the proper treatment be given to the cat as each case varies so what worked for one cat may not have the same positive effect with yours.

Your cat could still be healthy if you gave it constant attention. This can be done by feeding it good quality food, giving it clean water, allowing it to exercise, proper grooming, making sure it stays indoors and taking it regularly to the vet.

If you have missed any of these basic steps, something wrong is bound to happen and you will soon see a change in the behavior of the feline and doing nothing about it is just going to make things worse. So observe proper cat care tips and look out for symptoms. You can find more info at british shorthair cat.

How To Determine The Cause Of Cat Behaviour Problems

Are you living with a cat that refuses to use its litter box? Maybe your cat is insistent that your furnishings make a far better scratch post than the big fancy one that you bought! Or is your cat waking the entire neighbourhood with its cries for food at 3am? If this sounds familiar then you need to seriously think about training your cat to solve your cat behaviour problems, however before you can do that you need to determine WHY your cat is behaving like he is.

The first and most common reason for cat behaviour problems is a medical problem. If your cats’ behaviour changed suddenly from being the perfect pet into a problem pet overnight then you need to get him checked out by a vet to rule out any medical problems. For example, a cat with a urinary tract infection will find it painful to urinate and will associate its litter box with pain so will seek out an alternative. Another example, a cat that is in pain when touched will react viciously, not because he doesn’t like you but because when you touch him it causes him pain. Cats generally do not show any signs of illness so it is hard to know when your cat is ill. If you try to correct your cats behaviour problems when his is in fact ill then it will only confuse him.

If you have ruled out a medical problem then the next step is to determine whether the root of your cats’ problems is environmental. If your cat’s behaviour changed suddenly (and it is not due to a medical reason) then it may have been caused by an environmental change. These are things such as moving house, new baby, new cat or even a new cat to the neighbourhood. The most common behavioural changes for these causes are spraying indoors and using furnishings as scratch posts. This is your cats’ way of marking his territory.

The last cause is that your cat is the boss of you. In this case your cat needs to be retrained to obey the house rules. Your cat feels that your house is HIS territory and will therefore do with it as he sees fit. The reality is that YOU need to be the boss of your cat and this is where the retraining comes in.

If your cat has a medical problem then once it has been treated a cat will usually settle back down to his old ways very quickly and hence very little training is required unless he picked up some bad habits whilst he was ill! For a cat with environmental changes or a cat with bad habits it is a simple job of retraining your cat the correct way of doing things. The methods can vary depending on the problem you are trying to fix. If however your cat is the boss of you then it will take a little longer to retrain your cat. In this case you may want to consider cat training programs.

The Answer To Why House Cats Purr

What is more sweet than a cat purring? We all know the sensation of lying in bed or on the sofa with a purring cat, listening to this deep, soothing vibration.

A kitten is able to purr as soon as on the second day of life, and he often purrs while nursing. The mother purrs back. Not only house cats purr: most felines do. And contrary to what many think, it is not only an expression of pleasure. Cats often purr under stress, for example, mothers often purr while giving birth, when they are in pain. Did you know that purring cures? It has been scientifically proven that sounds in the frequency range of purring (between 25 and 150 Hertz) are good for the bone density and can hasten the healing of wounds in bones and muscles. We all know that cats spend a lot of time lying and sleeping, which does not stimulate the bones and muscles enough for a good posture control: purring is a way to keep their muscles and bones healthy without having to exercise too much. Purring is thus a self-healing procedure and helps them stay in good shape.

Professionals agree that domestic cats have been selected for their cute features throughout history, and that cats who purr a lot were considered cuter and thus selected over the others. Research shows that domestic cats purr a lot more often than their wild counterparts, it could be seen as an immature behavior they kept from the times when they were kittens. The adult domestic cats tend to live more like a kitten than the adult wild cats, for example, they press their paws on the ground more while eating : this is something kittens do on their mother’s breasts while nursing, to encourage the milk to come out.
But what about all these cats that purr when experiencing discomfort, while they are sick or giving birth? Researc shows that purring is used as a self-defense mechanism, a sort of smile in the adversity. Cats try to comfort themselves and calm down by creating these nice vibrations. It also works on humans: try lying next to a purring cat when you are feeling down or stressed out. It works like a charm.

Purring is like a medication, a mental technique to relax or feel better, a way to stay in good shape and also a way to express wellbeing and satisfaction in a childish way. The more you help your cat purr, the happier he will be, and maybe the happier you will be, too. So don’t be afraid: pet him a lot!

Kitty Litter Training

Has this ever happened to you? Your cat’s peeing outside the kitty litter box, and you’re desperately trying to clean up after your cat, wondering if you’re actually doing anything to stop it from happening in the first place!

Well, if you’re like me, you probably want some quick solutions to the problem, or at least a list of checkpoints that you know you must, like a detective on a trail, work through, to get the litter box behavior problem under control.

By the time you finish this article, you will have learnt the 7 most important steps you must know, when it comes to this problem of the cat peeing outside the litter box.

Firstly, let’s have a look at the reasons why this happens. The reasons for peeing outside the litter box are:

1. A medical problem.

2. The cat that has never been properly house trained to use the litter box in the first place.

3. Problems with the litter tray itself.

4. An unpleasant event that occurred while the cat was at the litter box.

5. A temporary physical or emotional stress, or change in the household causing the cat to urinate in an area outside the box, which is perpetuated by the urine smell reminding the cat to return to the same area over and over again.

6. Old age causing a cat to not be easily able to get to the litter box.

Now, keep these causes in mind, when checking out the 7 action steps:

1. If there’s a change in toilet behavior with no obvious cause, it may be caused by illnesses such as urinary tract infections, blocked anal glands, worms and parasites, feline diabetes and tumors. These illnesses may have no other obvious signs, apart from this urination problem. So you must consider a visit to the vet. In other cases you may see symptoms such as lethargy, blood in the urine, diarrhea, or constant licking in the anal area. If you see this, then your first stop is the vet!

2. Look at the litter box itself. Ensure you’re cleaning out the waste once or twice a day, and changing the litter every 3-4 days for non-clumping litter (2-3 weeks for clumping litter). Clean the tray with hot water and mild detergent, without any strong odors such as citrus or ammonia, which will repel the cat from the box. If you have multiple cats, remember – the number of trays should equal number of cats, plus one or two. If you’ve changed brands of litter, this may have caused the problem as many cats dislike this change, especially to scented litter. Return to the older litter. If you want to change, introduce unscented litter gradually by mixing the old with the new over 2 weeks. And ensure that the location of the box is acceptable: no loud noises, has some privacy, and is not in view of other cats.

3. Consider adding in 1 more litter box to another suitable private location of the house. This is because sometimes it’s not the litter box that’s the problem, but a negative experience there. For example, if your kids played with the cat while she was on the litter box, or if the cat had pain when urinating, such as during a urine infection, after having kittens, or had a procedure done on the bladder or urethra at the vet, then the cat would associate pain with that litter box. Even if the pain is gone, the association and is still there.

4. Thoroughly clean the area that has been peed on. This is important because no matter what the cause, the fact that the urine remains on the bed, carpet, or sofa is a reminder for the cat to return to pee there. The cat’s sense of smell is more acute than ours, so ensure you clean with a solution such as Brampton’s Simple Solution. If you have remaining urine smell together with a bad association at the box, then you have 2 forces causing the problem to continue. So get rid of both!

5. Next, if possible, deny the cat access to the area that is peed on, especially if it’s an area that is repeatedly used. Many people forget to do this, and their problem is prolonged. By stopping access, the cycle of repeated urination is stopped. Will the cat pee somewhere else? Possible, though less likely if you provide a second litter box, show him where it is a few times, and also do the step 7 below.

6. If you can’t stop the cat from accessing the area, make the area less attractive for peeing instead. You can do this by either placing a scent, or, by placing a bowl of dried cat food there. If using a scent, try citrus or eucalyptus. If using dried food, which often works better, ensure that you top up the food bowl during the day. Either way, once you have success, continue for another 1-2 weeks to ensure it stays that way.

7. If you’re at home when the cat is, then you have this step up your sleeve as well: the startle technique. Only do this method if you actually catch the cat about to urinate because if you do it at any other time, that cat will not be able to associate that urinating in the area with the unpleasant startle. Startle the cat with a loud “No!” or clap of the hands. Wait 5 minutes, then bring the cat to the litter tray, and if she toilets at the tray, reward her with praise and a food treat. As long as the length and enjoyment of the reward if far greater than the startle, this will be unlikely to cause stress. Use this method carefully as some cats may experience stress with it. Make sure that the cat seems relaxed after the food treat, and that it’s actually improving the situation.

If you follow the above steps, most problems of peeing outside the litter box will be solved within days or gradually improve over 1-2 weeks.

Remember in all cases, you’ll be even more effective if you reduce stress at the same time. This means more play time and attention.

In conclusion, it does take some effort and detective work to see what has caused the litter box behavior problem in the first place. And you now know how to apply 7 essential steps to help you solve this issue, as quickly and effectively as possible.

How To Train A Kitten To Use A Litter Box

Whether you are bringing your kitten home for the first time or if your cat has had a litter of kittens it is important to train a kitten to use a litter box from the beginning. By doing this your new little addition will see the use of a litter box for its toilet as the normal place to go and will continue to use it throughout its life.

If your kitten has just come from a cat that is itself litter box trained then the likely hood is that the kittens’ mother will do the litter box training for you. If however, your kitten has come from a wild cat then you will have to show him where he needs to go to the toilet.

A cats’ natural instinct is to dig into some soft earth do their business and then bury it so that any predators cannot pick up their scent. Your new kitten will also have this inbuilt instinct and will actively search out the most natural area to use, which should be the litter box that you have provided for him. This is why it is actually very easy to train a kitten to use a litter box. Cats also like their toilet area to be clean so make sure that you regularly scoop the litter. When buying your litter box be certain to get a box big enough for your cat. Although he is a fluffy little kitten now, he wont be for long so be sure to get a box that will be big enough when he is older too otherwise you will be buying another box later on. Be sure to put enough litter into the box so that your kitten can dig in it and then bury what they have done.

Before you bring your kitten home, decide where you are going to put the litter box. Make sure that it is in a location that is not too noisy and doesn’t get too much passing traffic from family members. Cats like a little privacy when going to the toilet and if they cannot get it in their litter box then they will hunt out an alternative place instead.

As soon as you bring your kitten home make sure that you show him where his water, food and litter box are. Put him in the litter so that he can feel that he can dig into it so that he will remember this later on when he needs to go.

Although it is usually easy to train a kitten to use a litter box, Sometimes it can seem like your kitten decided from the start that he was not going to use it. If your kitten simply refuses to use the litter box then there are a couple of things that you can try. Firstly keep on putting your kitten into its litter box. If you can spot the imminent signs that your kitten is about to go to the toilet then pick him up and put him in his litter box. Put one of your kittens’ stools into its litter box so that he realises what it is for.

It is usually very easy to train a kitten to use a litter box and if you do it very early on then your cat will find it natural to use a litter box for life. Whatever you do, do not shout, hit or rub your kittens nose in it mess and then plonk him into his litter box. He will not make the connection that urinating on your carpet is wrong and that he should have used the litter box instead. He will interpret it as the litter box being a punishment and a bad place and will avoid it in the future. Good luck with training your kitten.

Shipping Container Sales Give Extra Room For Your Hobby – The Inside Track

If you have a hobby chances are you will need additional storage to stop your hobby taking over the house. Secure storage can be found in a shipping container which can either be stored on your own property or in a yard or depot nearby. When thinking about storage container sales(or even hire) there are quite a few items you should take into account. Here are 10 that you might want to keep in mind.

1. The least expensive containers to buy are 20ft Shipping Containers or 40ft Shipping Containers. This is as these are the most common sizes used by the Shipping Lines/Transport Companies etc and as a result the most readily offered. Sizes such as 10ft etc are often cut down from larger containers and, due to the work involved, are generally more expensive.
2. Your shipping containers should be made out of corten steel. This is a extremely rust resistant and robust material that is weather resistant. If you are considering buying second hand shipping container then it will probaby come painted in the colours of a Shipping Line Company. There will probably be places where the paint has been scraped and a brown surface layer will have formed. This is not rust! Corten steel forms this patina to stop rust getting to the underneath. Your steel container be useful for another 10-15 years.
3. You should make sure that your container comes with a wind and watertight guarantee. When you take delivery of your shipping container, walk inside it and look for any holes in the sides – and don’t forget to look up and check the roof! This should be straightforward in the daylight as the sunlight will show through any holes there might be.
4. The floor of a standard shipping container is made out of 27mm timber. Ensure that there are no soft spots in the floor that might give way when the container is loaded.
5. Make sure that your shipping container is placed on level ground. This means that the doors will open smoothly. When the container is empty this potential problem is often not obvious as the doors will almost certainly open easily. However, once the container is loaded if the container is not sited on the level then the doors will stick.
6. If you are going to use your container for shipping then confirm it has a CSC certificate or plate. This will make certain that your container is cargo worthy and that you have no troubles when delivering it to the port for shipping. Bear in mind that a lot of people choose to buy their container rather than hire is so they can use it as a shipping container conversion once they get to their new country.
7. If you have any concerns about the security of your container have a lock cowl or lockbox put on at the depot before delivery. This is a metal box that is welded on to the container doors to protect the padlock from illegal access and tampering from bolt croppers or angle grinders etc.
8. Some insurance companies offer a premium discount if you use an insurance approved heavy duty container padlock such as CISA. It is worth asking the insurance company you use to insure your container’s contents if they do.
9. If you are worried about condensation then it may be worth considering lining the container. This can be carried out at the depot and can be done in a number of ways. The most common is to use ply either without or without the addition of rockwool behind. You could also consider using a “thermal blanket” – the method used by a large number of the shipping lines themselves. A cheaper alternative to the problem of condensation is a moisture trap. These last for 4 months and suck up 2.5 litres of water. They are extremely efficient but you do have to keep replacing them.
10. Lastly, make sure that when you set up delivery of your container you take into account the access to your site. If there are overhanging trees, low cables or the lorry has to cross a field then the lorry might not be able to deliver your container and you will be charged for unnecessary transport. It is always worth checking at the point of purchasing your container and, if there are concerns, sending photographs of the site or arranging a site visit to confirm that your container can be delivered.

Most Important Dog Diets Information

In this article you will find out what the ingredients are for a dog’s diet. Because there are a lot of misunderstandings about this, this information can be really valuable. So what do you have to include in your dogs diet? What is absolutely necessary and what can you better leave out? Hopefully the information in this article is useful for you. I also write about actuele hypotheekrente and goedkoop lenen.

Understanding the ingredients of your dog’s food items is a must for the dog lovers or dog owners. As soon as you feed the dog with different kinds of food items, you should always read the label and understand the contents about the dog feed types that are being used in such commercial preparations. You may want to
understand the ingredients while buying food for your dog and also know what to look for.

Feed items include dry and fresh food. The fresh dog food that is prepared in homes generally consists of ingredients like freshly cut chicken pieces in addition to the cranberry juices, blue-green algae, etc. If you come across any different kinds of preservatives and if the dog develops all of a sudden signs pertaining to the food allergy, suspect the unwanted ingredient in the feed items given. But also understand about the moisture status. If the food item is having more moisture, then the dog may prefer this as well.

Beet pulp, pasta, Soy bean oil, wheat middlings, calcium carbonate, magnesium oxide, copper sulphate, iron sulphate, zinc oxide, choline chloride, etc. are often the ingredients in case of vegetarian based diet items offered to the pet animals like dogs.
